Board Books [Age 0-3]

Board books typically have 10-16 pages made of thick durable cardboard and are smaller in size than ordinary storybooks, making them a good option for small fingers still learning how to handle books.  We select stories and images that are sure to remain engaging as the child develops.

Reading aloud to your baby is a wonderful shared activity you can continue for years to come — and it’s important for your baby’s brain. It teaches a baby about communication and introduces concepts such as numbers, letters, colors, and shapes in a fun way as well as builds listening, memory, and vocabulary skills.

Picture Books [Age 3-7]

Picture books are conventionally 32 pages long and are targeted at children ages 2 to 8. They use illustrations to tell the story and are designed to be read aloud.

Listening to a picture book read-aloud benefits children of all ages. They can concentrate on comprehension, inference, and predicting what will happen next while someone else carries the reading load.

As children develop their own reading skills, picture books are building blocks for young readers that promote literacy, vocabulary skills, sentence structure, and story analysis. The rhythm and rhyme of picture books makes them easy to understand and fun to read aloud, helping children to learn words quickly.

At a most basic level, picture books help kids understand that words convey meaning—connecting the pictures in the book with the words on the page. Kids will check pictures on the page for background knowledge or contextual clues for vocabulary development. They even use the images to learn the names of new objects.

Chapter Books [Age 8-12]

Chapter books are stories that are long enough to be divided into chapters, but not as extensive or complicated as a novel.

Chapter books may still feature illustrations, but fewer than early readers’ picture books. Children generally become ready to transition to kids’ chapter books at around age 7 or 8.

My Zoom Box curates chapter books with easy-to-read text and fast-paced plots that captivate early readers as well as confident readers.

Chapter books are a joy for parents and children to share reading aloud as well as a source of quiet entertainment for independent readers.
